Federal government College Port Harcourt Old Students Association (Lagos Chapter) is a body of old students of FGC Port Harcourt who reside in Lagos State, Nigeria. This medium has been created to update members of the association on new events, recent developments and news concerning members and our Alma mater.

Over the years through the late 1980s into the 1990s, old students of FGC PH residing in Lagos got together and met periodically in Surulere, Ikeja, Mende and other locations on a rotational basis in members residences.

Our Activities

Support

The association provides financial support to dedicated members for the following events: i. Death of a parent ii. Death of a spouse The association also gave financial aid and palliatives to several members during the COVID19 pandemic shutdown. This demonstrated the brotherhood in the association.

Health Checks

At monthly meetings, there are qualified medical personnel present to check blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Expert advice is given to those requiring it and there are health talks which are beneficial to all members.

CIVIC SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The association engages in periodic civic social responsibilities. Some of the activities engaged in include purchase of educational materials, office stationery and equipment for a foremost hospice in Lagos.

Mentoring

Members of the association engage in mentoring of younger members, guiding them through career paths and generally through life's challenges.

GIVE-BACK PROJECTS

The association has undertaken several give-back projects in the school. Worthy of mention is the reconstruction and painting of the school perimeter fence which had collapsed in several sections along Ikwerre Road. The entire length of reconstruction work spanned 85metres. The reconstruction work became imperative when armed hoodlums gained entry into the school premises and murdered a teacher, Late Mr. Kalu Mong. Two fundraising events tagged Excellence Ball were organized to raise funds in 2014 and 2015. The new fence was commissioned in 2017.

Material Aid

Members of the association strive to be our brother's keeper. For instance during the stay at home period as a result of the corona virus, members with the orchestration of the executive committee showed their generousity towards each other by raising a large pool of funds and distributing to a number of members.

BUSINESS, JOB AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

The association provides tools to support members in their career and business growth by organizing sessions at no cost. Special alumni social events are also hosted by the association which are great opportunities for networking among members. Emphasis is also laid on alumni supporting and patronizing alumni-owned businesses. Job seekers are also given priority by providing information about existing opportunities by well-placed members of the association.

Aims Of The Association.

The aims of the association include the following:

i. To foster unity among members and to create a forum for the members to meet and exchange ideas on issues affecting them as individuals and the school.

ii. To defend and promote the image and integrity of the school.

iii. To raise members of great conscience.

iv. To create and maintain an endowment fund for the proper execution of the association’s development objectives.

v. To promote love and foster good relationship among members irrespective of graduation year, religious affiliation or ethnic group.

vi. To support members in times of distress.
